2024 Tampa Bay Summer Hires Enrollment is Now Open

Our Vision –The CareerSource Tampa Bay Summer Youth Employment Program, branded Tampa Bay Summer Hires provides a unique opportunity for career exploration to youth in Hillsborough County. Summer youth employment programs instill the young adults of tomorrow with critical essential skills that all employers need. The Tampa Bay Summer Hires  program introduces youth to the world of work and exposed them to new experiences, ideas, and potential career paths for the future through hands-on, real-world work experience through paid work experience positions in-demand occupations or targeted industries.

The program design was a vision created by CareerSource Tampa Bay (CSTB) that was met with the full support of the CSTB Board of Directors and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, as well. The inaugural program year was 2019.

Unemployment rates for youth in the age range of 15 – 24 years old usually run above 13-14%. Our Tampa Bay Summer Hires program prepares Hillsborough County youth to be work-ready by exposing them to opportunities in targeted occupations, established a future talent pipeline, and assisted with reducing the skills gap shortage. With a focused emphasis on CSTB’s core vision, Talent Meets Opportunity. Our TBSH program is equipping the future talent pipeline for Hillsborough County employers.

Employers are invited to learn about the success CSTB experienced during past summer programs, understand how to participate as an employer and learn how employers play a vital role in building the future talent pipeline for young adults, 15 to 24 years of age.

“This program would not be able to succeed without the support of our business community,” said Leondra Foster, Tampa Bay Summer Hires Director. “Our business community has been key to our success by meeting businesses’ short term workforce needs, improving our regional talent pipelines and expanding workplace learning opportunities through our paid work experience model.”

Tampa Bay Summer Hires is especially looking for employers with regionally targeted industries and in-demand jobs which includes:

  • Manufacturing/Construction/ Building Trades
  • Hospitality/Tourism
  • Transportation
  • Logistics
  • Retail
  • Financial Shared Services
  • Healthcare
  • Information Technology.

Tampa Bay Summer Hires plans on serving more than 600 youth in 2024. Since the implementation of our inaugural year in 2019, we’ve experienced tremendous success. To date, serving more than 3,000 youth with 300 employers participating in the program.
